Response essays allow the writer and the reader to develop a critical perspective and to carry out a critical analysis. It is for the same reason that the response essay requires that it is fully researched and any arguments that are brought into use in it are valid and from credible sources.

Substantiating Arguments in Response Essays
It is preferred if published sources are used to support the arguments given in order to ensure authenticity of the responses given. Once a brief discussion on different perspectives on the subject has been collected, the central themes of the subject essay are taken and addressed one by one in the form of paragraphs. Each central idea is presented and then a response is presented. Most response essays make use of three or more body paragraphs at a minimum.
