How to Debate Both Sides of the Issue with For and Against Essays
As the name implies, for and against essays are essays where you debate for the issue and against it. In other words, in these essays, you take both sides of the issue and present arguments for and against it.
The for and against essays that you prepare must reflect the opposing viewpoints and present your stance either for or against the issue. Hence, it becomes imperative to present both sides of the issue in for and against essays. In many cases, students usually take one side and argue against the other side.
However, for and against essays do not allow for that in the sense that they cannot be a one-dimensional essay where only one side is argued.
Voice Your Opinion
For and against essays do not mean that you cannot voice your opinion. On the other hand, you can present both sides of the issue in for and against essays and then state your opinion about one particular side in a way that seems appealing.
The point here is that the main body of the for and against essays must consist of presentation of the opposing viewpoints and the conclusion must include your stance on the issue.
Format the Essay
For and against essays must be formatted in such a way that the layout is clear and concise and gives enough space for expression of both the viewpoints. You can use bullet points and numbering if necessary. Further, the for and against essays must be well laid out and the opposing stances clearly marked so as to not leave room for ambiguity and confusion.
Finally, for and against essays need to reflect the personal opinion of the writers as well. Hence, make sure that you provide enough material that supports your take on the issue that is being discussed.
