Argue your way to an excellent research paper
If you think that an argumentative research paper is like an argument you have with a friend – think again; because an argumentative research paper is anything but a debate. Argumentative research papers are commonly written academic assignments at the college and university level.
Students should therefore write an effective research paper and reflect critical thinking and analytical skills. Below are some tips which students should remember while writing an argumentative research paper:
- Create an original thesis statement based on research and your own ideas and opinions. This will make your argumentative research paper original and interesting to read.
- Ensure that the research paper is well organised with a well developed thesis and appropriately referenced with in-text citations.
- As the name suggests, you will be required to take a stand for or against an issue. However, you are not expected to argue your point of view on the basis of personal opinion. The ideal approach to writing a good argumentative research paper is to integrate scholarly ideas and opinions with your own ideas. Analyse your arguments and use scholarly evidence to prove your claims.
- Do not simply state your arguments and claims in the argumentative research paper. Take your position on a problem and then study about scholars who agree and disagree on the issue. Consider both sides of the issue – for and against. This was you will learn to consider the opponent’s position and use logical reasoning to prove your claims.
- An argumentative research paper can be written on any current issue such as health care, an environmental issue or any other social problem.
- Ensure that the paper is logically argued and all outside sources are well-referenced.
